Having the reference layer separate from the base layer increases your cartographic options when you use the World Ocean Basemap in your maps and applications. The reference layer contains reference information and labels such as soundings, subsurface feature names, and administrative boundaries. The base layer includes hydrographic and terrestrial cartography such as submarine canyons, seamounts, and plateaus. The World Ocean Basemap, designed for marine GIS professionals and as a reference for anyone who wants to view ocean data, now consists of a base layer and a separate reference layer. The World Ocean Basemap includes some incredible high resolution data, such as this dataset for San Francisco from California State University, Monterey Bay.Įsri’s new release of the World Ocean Basemap reflects an exciting and major change to the basemap’s structure that will make it easier than ever to use. ![]()
